In the MBC drama “When The Phone Rings”, Yoo Yeon-seok has caught the attention of the viewers with his acting in the episode 6 when he receives call from Hong Hee-joo, who fall off a cliff.
In the recent episode, Hee-joo (Chae Soo-bin) speaks for the first time in years to save Baek Sa-eon (Yoo Yeon-seok) from a car accident, shouting his name during a tense phone call. Despite denying this later, her emotional breakthrough hints at an internal struggle, building anticipation for whether she will speak in front of others or not.
Meanwhile, Hee-joo confronts unresolved family conflicts during an unexpected reunion with her estranged sister, Hong In-ah (played by Han Jae-yi). This interaction reveals that Hee-joo’s mutism stems partly from their troubled relationship. She boldly declares her independence, asserting through sign language that her life choices are her own.
Another dramatic twist occurs when Hee-joo, during a trip, is overwhelmed by people and then pushed by someone off the cliff. With her personal phone broken, she is unable to call for help. However, she finds out that the phone she uses to call Sa-eon as blackmailer is still fine. She tries to call emergency helplines with that, but unable to connect with them.

Baek Sa-eon, on the other hand, is trying hard to find Hee-joo and waits for her call, so he can know her exact location. Hee-joo, tries to call Sa-eon, and the call connects.
Sa-eon, receives the call from the blackmailer, “406”, he hurriedly calls her “Hee-joo”, but then starts calling her by “406” – to which Hee-joo thinks that Sa-eon is assuming that the blackmailer is with her, not knowing that Sa-eon is already aware of 406’s identity.
Sa-eon tells Hee-joo about the flare he packed on her bagpack, as well as asks her questions, such as “Has Hee-joo drink enough water?”, “Hee-joo shouldn’t be dehydrated.”, while Hee-joo shoots the flare on the sky.
Sa-eon, looking at the flare, runs to Hee-joo’s location at the base of the cliff, desperately trying to reach her in time as the tension of the situation peaks.
The episode ends with Hee-joo thinking about the time when she asked Sa-eon about how he feels about Hee-joo, to which he replied, “I like Hee-joo”.
With the story reaching half from the conclusion, it will be interesting to see how the relationship between Baek Sa-eon and Hong Hee-joo will change, especially after this incident. The episode 7 of “When The Phone Rings” will air on December 20 on MBC TV.
