In the MBC Friday-Saturday drama “When the Phone Rings”, Yoo Yeon-seok’s character Baek Sa-eon intensifies his rivalry with Ji Sang-woo (played by Heo Nam-jun). The upcoming Episode 5, airing on December 6, will bring Baek Sa-eon (Yoo Yeon-seok), Hong Hui-joo (Chae Soo-bin), Ji Sang-woo (Heo Nam-joon), and Na Yu-ri (Jang Gyu-ri) together in a tense situation.
In Episode 4, Sa-eon publicly acknowledged his wife Hui-joo for the first time in front of police officers, hinting a turning point in their relationship. However, his growing suspicion of Sang-woo led him to interrogate Yu-ri about Sang-woo’s background, showing how distrust is brewing. In the near end of the episode, Hui-joo – disguised as the blackmailer, harshly confronts Sa-eon. In a heartfelt moment, Sa-eon passionately defended his wife, declaring, “Hui-joo isn’t supplementary papers. She’s a brand-new language. So don’t talk about my wife like that.”
The episode ends with Sa-eon realising that Hui-joo can speak, after watching the police car’s recorded video, where she can be heard speaking.
Newly released images from Episode 5 reveal the four main characters dining together. Sa-eon’s intense gaze is fixed on Sang-woo, who avoids eye contact, creating a charged atmosphere. Sang-woo, usually composed, is uncharacteristically cold and appears ready to retaliate after discovering Sa-eon’s investigations into his past. Their confrontation is set to escalate, deepening their misunderstandings and conflict.
Meanwhile, Hui-joo anxiously observes the brewing tension, leaving viewers curious about how she will navigate this situation. Additionally, Yu-ri’s unexpected comment reportedly brings the conversation to a standstill, leaving everyone stunned. What unfolds during this dinner is sure to unravel more secrets and drive the story forward.
