On October 20, the finale of the 10th anniversary celebrations for the TV anime Tokyo Ghoul was announced at the opening ceremony of the “immersive” exhibition “Tokyo Ghoul EX”. This exhibition opened in Tokyo and is designed to give fans a deep, interactive experience of the Tokyo Ghoul world.
The event that will mark the finale is called “Tokyo Ghoul FES: ―PLAYBACK―” and is scheduled for June 8, 2025, at Tachikawa Stage Garden in Tokyo.
Several key voice actors will be featured, including Natsuki Hanae, who voices the protagonist Ken Kaneki, Sora Amamiya, who plays Touka Kirishima and Kana Hanazawa, who voices Rize Kamishiro.
At the opening ceremony, Hanae talks about the upcoming event, saying, “It’s been 10 years since I’ve stood before fans at an event like this, so I feel a bit nervous.”
In addition to the cast, Yūsuke Inoue, a comedian from the popular duo “NON STYLE” and a self-professed anime fan, also joined the ceremony. To celebrate the exhibition’s opening on October 21, they held a traditional kagami biraki (the ceremonial opening of a sake barrel) with a coffee barrel. This was a reference to the ghouls in the story, who cannot consume regular human food but can drink coffee.
Tokyo Ghoul EX Exhibition
“Tokyo Ghoul EX” is a fully immersive exhibition that brings the dark yet beautiful world of Tokyo Ghoul to life. Visitors can explore detailed sculptures, interactive experiences, and highly engaging video displays that showcase the essence of this tragic and intense series.
One of the highlights is the immersive theater that recreates the famous battle between Kaneki and Yamori (Japanese: Yamori). Hanae excitedly shared his experience: “The whole area becomes a screen, and the scene where Kaneki gets tortured is displayed. The sense of immersion with the headphones is just amazing!”
Amamiya added, “The Anteiku café is such a peaceful space, though the rest of the exhibition has quite a few scary elements. The smell of coffee really helped me feel relaxed at Anteiku.”
