Suzu Minami Joins “Nevertheless: The Shapes of Love” Cast

Suzu Minami has been announced as part of the cast for the upcoming ABEMA original drama “Nevertheless: The Shapes of Love, where she will portray Miu Hamasaki. The series, starring Ryusei Yokohama as the male lead Ren Kosaka, is set to premiere from December 9.

The show reimagines the popular South Korean Netflix series “Nevertheless”, bringing its story to Japan’s scenic Kamakura. Directed by Ryu Nakagawa, the drama explores the universal and relatable human urge to chase love despite the risk of heartbreak. The creative team behind the production has focused on presenting this emotional journey through an elegant and visually captivating lens.

Suzu Minami as Miu Hamasaki

Minami plays Miu, who is an assistant in the sculpture department at an art university in Kamakura. Two years ago, she was dumped by her boyfriend and was ridiculed for her art after which Miu decided to never fall in love again. The emotional wounds have left her hesitant to chase her dreams, including an opportunity to study abroad, and she struggles to find confidence in her work. While she tries to live cautiously and prioritize logic over emotion, Miu’s true nature is honest and driven by her feelings.

This emotional struggle sets the stage for her growing attraction to Ren, a connection she tries, but ultimately fails, to resist.

A Collaborative Process with Respect for the Original Story

Speaking about her role, Minami expressed her commitment to staying true to the essence of the original while following the creative process on set. “I wanted to honour the source material while being present in the moment during filming. This story captures the beauty and fragility of acting on instinct even when you know it might lead to heartbreak”, she shared. “Each character brings something unique to the table, making the series a rich and emotional experience.”

Director Ryu Nakagawa revealed that Minami’s portrayal of Miu exceeded expectations. “From our very first meeting, I saw a natural connection between Suzu and Miu. She embraced the complexities of Miu’s character, such as her struggles with art, love, and self-discovery, and brought them to life through her intuitive and graceful acting. Suzu’s chemistry with Ryusei added a new depth to the story that fans of the original series and newcomers alike will appreciate.”

In the promotional visuals, Miu looks at Ren with clear, searching eyes, while Ren’s expression hints at hidden sorrow. The teaser reflects their conflicting emotions, with Miu’s internal monologue revealing her struggle: “I always thought love would only bring pain in the end. But even knowing that, I couldn’t stop myself from wanting it.”

The drama’s second teaser trailer offers a deeper look into the characters’ struggle as they navigate the pull of desire against the voice of reason.

“Nevertheless: The Shapes of Love” will release its first three episodes simultaneously on December 9, available globally on Netflix. Fans of emotional love stories won’t want to miss this remake of “Nevertheless”.
