The highly anticipated Amazon Original drama “Like a Dragon: Yakuza” (Ryū ga Gotoku: Beyond the Game) has been gaining attention on Prime Video, reaching the Top 10 in over 100 countries and regions following the release of its first three episodes. The final episodes, premiering 1st November, promise an intense showdown around the mystery of the “missing 10 billion yen”.
Based on SEGA’s popular Yakuza game series, the drama is set in the bustling streets of Kamurocho, following Kazuma Kiryu (played by Ryoma Takeuchi) as he rises in the world of crime, inspired by the legendary “Dragon of Dojima”. This original story combines crime, suspense, and action to tell a new tale of ambition and loyalty.
New Teaser:
The story introduces Kiryu and his childhood friends – Nishiki (Kento Kaku), Yumi (Yumi Kawai) and Miho (Hinano Nakayama), who grew up together in a strict orphanage, Himawari. In an attempt to escape their controlled lives, the four stage a heist at a game centre, setting off a chain of events that pulls them into the underground world. Unfortunately, they soon learn the store is connected to the powerful Dojima clan, a dangerous yakuza group. Shinji Kazama (Toshiaki Karasawa), who runs the orphanage and acts as a father figure to them, hopes the group will live decent lives. However, they gradually get pulled deeper into the dark world they were trying to escape.
The drama’s storyline moves between two time periods: 1995 and 2005. In 2005, Kiryu, released from prison after serving a 10-year sentence for “parent-killing,” finds himself entangled in a massive conflict involving his former friends, now with complex ties to the Dojima clan and Kamurocho’s criminal underworld. In one gripping scene, Kiryu returns to Kamurocho to protect those he still considers “family,” risking everything to settle old scores.
In the latest teaser, viewers catch a glimpse of Kiryu in a brutal fight at an underground arena in 1995 as he aims to prove himself. Tensions are high as the once-close bond among Kiryu, Nishiki, and Yumi begins to fray, each choosing different paths that foreshadow conflicts to come. The explosive trailer shows intense action sequences and hints at secrets from a decade ago that tore apart their “family,” as well as the identity of the mysterious “Shinjuku Demon”, rumoured to have a dark connection to Nishiki.
As the drama heads into its final episodes, fans can expect a series of twists and confrontations, where bonds of loyalty, betrayal, and survival play out in the heart of Kamurocho.
The final episode will be available to stream on Amazon Prime on 1st November.
