Episode 8 of “Light of My Lion”:
Upon arriving at Sado Island, Aiko is warmly welcomed by Lion but finds Hirato distant and unsure how to reconnect with her after so many years. Despite the awkwardness, Aiko immediately starts to bring her own pace into the group, making the reunion both tense and heartfelt.
Later that evening, Hirato confronts Aiko about her past decisions, including her reasons for entrusting her son, Lion, to him and Michito. He also brings up their family’s difficult history, including the abuse Aiko suffered from her late husband, Shogo. For the first time, Aiko opens up fully to Hirato, leading to an emotional conversation between the siblings.
Meanwhile, a journalist, Amane (Takumi Ozaki), uncovers new and troubling information about a construction company and a local politician connected to the story, adding another layer of intrigue.
One of the most emotional moments in the episode comes when Aiko explains the origin of Lion’s real name, Shuto. She reveals that the name was inspired by Hirato and Michito, as the “to” in Shuto shares the same kanji for “person” (人), symbolizing human connections. Aiko says, “Our mother wanted Shuto to be blessed with relationships and bonds, just like you two.”
