Kim Tae-ri Breaks Down After Possibly Losing Her Voice

The tvN’s weekend drama “Jeongnyeon: The Star Is Born” has released several preview images from the episode 9, showing the intense moment where Jeong-nyeon (played by Kim Tae-ri) breaks down in the pouring rain due to the doctor’s diagnosis of her voice.

In the episode 8, we saw that the theatre had prepared for their upcoming performance, “The Fool and the Princess”, by holding auditions for the young leads. Jeong-nyeon was hurt and feeling insecure when her trusted friend, Joo-ran (Woo Da-bi) chose to go to the audition with Yeong-seo (Shin Ye-eun) as partners, instead of her.

She paired up with Cho-rok (Hyun Seung-hee) for the audition and continued her preparations. She did not want to see the performance of Joo-ran and Yeong-seo, but Hye-rang (Kim Yoon-hye) made her watch their preparations. It only ended up increasing her anxiety and insecurities.

Hye-rang makes Jeong-nyeon fall into her trap by urging her to exercise Dokgong, which is an intense vocal endurance training, often done near a waterfall or in a secluded area. Jeong-nyeon, despite being warned by others about the potential damage to her voice, proceeds with the training.

During the audition, Jeong-nyeon was seen pushing herself too much and ended up with hoarse voice. While she delivered an amazing performance, near the end, she ended up coughing up blood.

In the preview for episode 9, it was hinted that she might have to give up singing due to doctor’s diagnosis.

The newly released preview images show Jeong-nyeon, drenched and breaking down in the middle of a rainy street, appearing completely devastated. Keeping her hands on her neck, visibly frustrated on her strained voice, she looks as if her world has come crashing down.

Now, the viewers are left wondering on which direction the story will take after this moment.

“Jeongnyeon: The Star Is Born” airs on tvN every weekend at 9:20 PM (KST), with episode 9 set to be released on November 9. It is also available to stream on Disney+ and Hulu, depending on your region.
