The 8th episode of tvN’s weekend drama “Jeongnyeon: The Star Is Born” left the viewers anticipating the fate of Yoon Jeong-nyeon (played by Kim Tae-ri) after her powerful performance in the join performance of “The Fool and the Princess”, where she pushed herself to a difficult vocal performance and ended up coughing up blood at the end of her performance.
In the episode 8 of “Jeongnyeon”, Jeong-nyeon was struggling with the revelation that her trusted friend, Joo-ran (Woo Da-bi) chose Yeong-seo (Shin Ye-eun) as her partner instead of her, leaving Jeong-nyeon deeply hurt and insecure.
To prove herself, Jeong-nyeon pairs up with Cho-rok (Hyun Seung-hee) and continues her intense preparations.
Hye-rang (Kim Yoon-hye) takes Jeong-nyeon to watch the performance of Joo-ran and Yeong-seo, which she has been avoiding but witnessing their performance only ended up increasing her anxieties, as she saw the effortless performance by Yeong-seo.
Hye-rang urged her to exercise Dokgong which is a really difficult vocal endurance training, often done near a waterfall or in a secluded area. Jeong-nyeon heads to a cave even after Cho-rok warns her about the potential damage to her voice.
Kang So-bok (Ra Mi-ran) notices that Jeong-nyeon’s voice was hoarse. This made her scared, recalling Choi Gong-seo (Moon So-ri), Jeong-nyeon’s mother, whose voice had become timbre (a voice which lacks harmony), due to her obsession with her voice. However, Jeong-nyeon was too absorbed in delivering a great performance that she did not listen to the worries of people around her.
On the day of audition, when Jeong-nyeon and Cho-rok came to the stage, Jeong-nyeon started acting as if she would collapse at any second and captured the attention of everyone in the audition hall with her sorrowful voice and acting.
However, at one moment, her voice suddenly began to falter and eventually stopped. The judges tried to stop the audition but Jeong-nyeon knelt before the judges and asked for another chance.
Jeong-nyeon was finally given one chance and delivered a powerful, tear-filled performance, squeezing every bit of her strength. However, just when she reaches the climax, Jeong-nyeon suddenly coughs up blood and collapses on stage, leaving the audience and characters in shock.
The episode 8 ended with the cliffhanger on what’s the fate of Jeong-nyeon, who has sacrificed everything for her dream of become a Gukgeuk actress.
