In the recent episode of MBC’s Friday-Saturday drama “Doubt”, we witnessed unpredictable twists. The episode 5 which aired on 26th October showed Jang Tae-soo (played by Han Seok-kyu) shedding tears of regret for hurting his daughter Ha-bin (played by Chae Won-bin) and his late wife Yoon Ji-soo (played by Oh Yeon-su) due to his suspicions.
The episode 5 of “Doubt” also revealed a shocking secret that the day when Ji-soo died, Tae-soo was with her, which raised questions about his untold secrets. It even made the viewers doubt Tae-soo, making the drama name perfect for it.
Episode 5 began with the jarring images of Ji-soo attempting to dispose of a body. Tae-soo soon finds out that his wife had been secretly consulting with a psychiatrist, since she struggled to raise Ha-bin alone after their divorce.
In her counselling files, Ji-soo had revealed the overwhelming anxiety she experienced, fearing the unusual behaviour and isolation of Ha-bin, as a mother.
Ji-soo had tried to raise Ha-bin as a normal child, but things changed when Ha-bin found her first friend, Soo-hyun (played by Song Ji-hyun). Unfortunately, problems arises when Ha-bin goes to look for So-hyun, but she runs away. Soo-hyun later confessed to Ji-soo that she was scared of Ha-bin.
After So-hyun confessed, the fear due to the doubts planted by the suspicions of Tae-soo grew worse. She began to suspect that Ha-bin might have had a hand in her younger brother Ha-jun’s death, just like Tae-soo once feared.
During the episode, Tae-soo realised that Ji-soo was manipulated by Choi Young-min (played by Kim Jung-jin), who had pressured her by making her believe that Ha-bin killed Soo-hyun. Devastated, Tae-soo tracked down Young-min, warning him to stay silent about Ji-soo’s secret to protect Ha-bin from additional pain. Tae-so felt that if Ha-bin knew even her mother doubted her, she would be deeply hurt.
Back home, Tae-soo was overwhelmed with guilt and broke down in tears. Ha-bin, standing before him, coldly asked, “Did you really meet Mom on the day she died? Did you think you could hide it forever?”.
This tense confrontation replayed scenes of Tae-soo’s past struggle with Ji-soo, including the moment when Tae-soo asked her to just die, disregarding the pain she was in.
The episode ended with Tae-soo frozen in shock, heightening anticipation about what truly happened that day.
The next episode of “Doubt” will air on 1st November at 9:50 PM (KST) on MBC TV. It will also be later available to stream on Netflix, Kocowa, Coupang Play and Wavve.
