“After School Doctor” Episode 5 Synopsis

NIPPON TV’s Saturday drama “After School Doctor” aired its episode 5 on November 10. In this episode, Makino (played by Kouhei Matsushita) remembers his bitter past and later breaks the protocols to treat his old patient, Makoto, by bringing him back to his hospital without his father’s consent.

The drama “After School Doctor” is based on the works of Mayu Nichise published in BE・LOVE. It is set on Higashi Tama Elementary School. Makino is a brash pediatrician with a sharp eye but is forced to work in an elementary school’s health room. He uses his excellent observation skills help and save children, families and sometimes even teachers.

In episode 5 of “After School Doctor”, Makino learns from nurse Shinoya (Aoi Morikawa) that Hana (Kaho Konishi), who is a young girl but is hurt by her parents is just a step away from destroying herself. Makino, remembering his own painful past, tell Shinoya that, “I want to help you”.

A few months earlier, Makino encountered a single father, Takayuki (Takashi Tsukamoto), who brought his son Makoto (Kira Miura) to Makino’s university hospital. Diagnosing Makoto with the flu, Makino prescribed treatment, but when Makoto’s fever persisted after two weeks, Takayuki returned, frustrated. After another doctor, Takasaki (Seiichi Tanabe), re-examined Makoto and found a bacterial infection, Takayuki’s distrust of Makino grew. Takasaki advised Makino to consider the perspectives of patients and their families more carefully.

Meanwhile, Makino reviewed Makoto’s records and identifies the likely cause of his fever. Despite his colleague, Yoshida (Chihiro Kato), advising against it, Makino called Makoto’s home. Mahiro’s urgent tone frightens Makoto, and he hangs up the call. Makino is later informed that Takayuki has cancelled the follow-up appointment with him, so he went into their home, disregarding the protocols and brought Makoto back to the hospital without his father’s consent.
